The resurgence of indie electronic band Crooked Colours, marked by the release of  ‘Flow’ has been received with high praise from the likes of triple j, Radio 1, Majestic Casual, Complex UKand fans alike, packing out shows across their sold-out national tour. Crooked Colours have returned to the forefront of Australian music, cementing their foothold by delivering a refreshing take on hits ‘Capricious’ & ‘Come Down’ whilst delighting audiences with a plethora of new material . After taking an 18 month hiatus to develop their craft further, the trio have been creating more diverse and layered productions than ever before. Following on from ‘Flow’, Crooked Colours are set to release the 2nd single from the forthcoming LP ‘I Hope You Get It’ feat. Melbourne rapper Ivan Ooze. Announcing today that the single will be available along with pre-order for the debut album titled ‘Vera’ which is due to drop 23rd June on Sweat It Out.

Having performed alongside the trio on the ‘Flow’ single tour, Ivan Ooze brings his charismatic and distinctive vocals to the project. Previously working alongside Ice Cube, Ghostface Killah, and currently on tour with Aussie lads Peking Duk, it is well documented that Ivan is one to watch in 2017.

Phil explains “It was really just one of those dream results where we reach out to someone we weren’t too familiar with and he knocked it out of the park. It highlighted the raw talent that Ivan has when writing that we sent him the track in the afternoon and that night he sent back pretty much the finished product.”

With smooth rolling guitar and synths, layered with Ivan’s signature vocals, leading into a flawlessly fluid drop, ‘I Hope You Get It’ exposes yet another level to Crooked Coloursproduction which is only highlighted further throughout the LP.

‘I Hope You Get It (Feat. Ivan Ooze)’ is out today on Sweat It Out, along with the pre-order forCrooked Colours debut album titled ‘Vera’ due 23rd June 2017.

JFDR and The Floating Points Bring an Electric Show to The Danforth Music Hall

Tuesday, April 11 – JFDR and The Floating Points made their stop in our city of Toronto during the U.S. tour to give their fans an incredible performance at The Danforth Music Hall.
We sent our photographer Harrison Haines to cover this show and he came back with nothing but great things to say about the show and how unique the performances were.
“The show went great! JFDR and Floating Points both had awesome performances. JFDR was a solo artist playing the guitar, singing the vocals and also using a mixer to add more sounds to her show. She had a very unique and serene like sound.  A great show to go to and just relax and listen.
Floating Points were a four piece band (a guitar, bass, drummer and pianist/mixer).  They were definitely a louder band than JFDR with the drummer having crazy solos throughout. They also had a wild light show in the middle of the stage throughout the whole show.  A small box was shooting lines and lasers onto a circle  at the back of the stage.  Every spot on the circle that was touched by the lasers would stay lit up until the end of the song at which point a sacred geometry piece would be recognizable on the circle. It was very cool to see!  It was almost like a hologram.
The venue was awesome it filled up instantly. It was a large hall with very tall ceilings made for the perfect acoustics for the unique sounds the mixer from Floating Points would constantly send through the speakers.”
If you’re looking to see a psychedelic and unique show, then JFDR and The Floating Points is one for the books!

The 305 Brought the Heat to Miami Music Week [NAS MEDIA]

Wednesday, March 22 – Flying in from Toronto, we touched down in Miami and our Miami Music Week started at the DJ Mag Poolside Sessions party at the renowned hotel The Raleigh. The outdoor pool party started to fill up quickly with guests in anticipation for the headliners Dannic, Marshmello, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. A lot of the guests were relaxing by the poolside while the rest of the crowd was under a tented roof where the DJ’s were spinning their tracks. As the afternoon commenced guests began getting their groove on as the party started to liven up.

When evening fell and headliner Marshmello came on the stage, everyone began chanting and cheering for the well-known all white dressed DJ. His big-room beats had the crowd jumping and begging for more bangers. Marshmello then introduced the DJ’s of the night, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, they closed the poolside sessions with their electro house beats mixed with a little progressive, future, and tech house all in one!

Thursday, March 23 – The party continues! We started our day off at the National Hotel in South Beach, Miami at the All Gone Pete Tong poolside party. This party was banging from the early afternoon until the evening. All guests took advantage of the record long pool in South Beach. When night fell the party host himself Mr. Pete Tong brought to the stage his electronica rhythms and beats to an overloaded crowd who were beyond excited to see him play live.

Up next, we had the opportunity to visit The Spinnin’ Hotel for Spinnin’ Sessions pool parties. The first party of the week was hosted by the Sandstorm King himself, Sander Van Doorn. The Doorn Records pool party had headlining guests Sander Van Doorn himself, Benny Benassi, Dannic, Firebeatz, and Robbie Rivera. This party was one for the books, filled with lots of hype, energy, and excited fans, this party never seemed to turn down. Robbie Rivera took the stage in the early afternoon and brought his electro beats to the crowd where guests were jamming out by the pool as well as in the crowd.

A lot of Spinnin’ merch was being sold so fans were repping their fav record label all evening while listening and seeing their number one DJ’s live. Benny Benassi was up next and truly brought the electronic and progressive house beats to life. The red visuals and ambiance he created was entrancing, he truly had the crowd under his spell. He closed his set with his notorious single “Satisfaction” and the crowd went wild. Jumping, dancing, and getting a hold of flashbacks of dancing to that hit single for the first time in their local nightclub or dance floor.

The man of the hour finally made his appearance and blessed the crowd with his electro house and tech-trance rhythms. It began to rain mid-way through his set, but that didn’t stop the crowd from giving their all on the patio paved dance floor.

Friday, March 24 – We’re now into mid-week of the Miami Music Week festivities. We started our day at The National hotel for the Vatos Locos pool party hosted by Hector. Headlining DJ’s included, Hector, Stacey Pullen, Dennis Ferrer, Cassy, and more. The decorations and the theme that was at this pool party had a very latin feel to it. Roses hung in the air, skulls, as well as 3D crafted stars and crosses to complete the aesthetic. The crowd was loving the electronic rhythms and dance music while enjoying a nice cold drink by the poolside.

Back at the Spinnin’ Hotel we were ready to enter into tropical house paradise at the Heartfeldt poolside party with headliners Sam Feldt, Shaun Frank, and, SNBRN. The energy that was in the air at this heartfeldt party was contagious, having all guests smiling from ear to ear, jumping in the pool, and dancing on cabana beds. To our surprise the man of the hour Sam Feldt came on the stage earlier than expected and dropped a two-hour long tropical house set with a mix of deep house that left the crowd wanting more. Feldt really knows how to host a party and keep his guests entertained, when he pulled out two live saxophone players that captivated the crowd with their talent. But he didn’t stop there, aside from the live instruments and musicians, there was a random costumed-bear that came out and began crowd-surfing during his set! Needless to say, Sam Feldt’s set was nothing short of fun, upbeat, and entertaining.

The next artist to follow up Feldt’s set was future house DJ SNBRN. Although it began raining in the evening, once again it did not stop guests from partying it up in the city of Miami. The closing artist of the night was Toronto’s very own, Shaun Frank.

Saturday, March 25 – The last day of Miami Music Week festivities for Nas… A sad day, but a fun one to say the least, (smiling through the tears.) Back at it again at The National Hotel for Contact’s pool party, sponsored by Spin Artist Agency. With DJ’s such as, AfSheen, Bijou, Cazzette, Firebeatz, Julian Jordan, LA Riots, and many more. Toronto’s very own Loud Luxury opened for the party with their dance and electronic beats. The artist lineup continued and left the guests partying it up and expressing how much they loved the city of Miami.

As much fun as we had in the 305, it was our time to return home to the 6ix. Thank you Miami and we will make our return soon again!

On the Beat with the CDJ Show & Conference 2017

Friday, March 11 – The CDJ Show & Conference began on a high note with back-to-back seminars taking place with high industry level representatives educating aspiring artists and producers on how to make it to the top. The first seminar of the day that we attended was from director/co-founder of Toolroom Academy, Stuart Knight. His seminar educated guests and artists on how to get from a demo to a record deal.

This seminar brought invaluable information to many of the aspiring artists and DJ’s at the conference. Many guests left the seminar feeling inspired and ready to take on the next challenge as an artist and/or producer.

The next seminar was held by founder of Slideways records, Tim Penner. His seminar taught guests and aspiring artists on how to get their music in the right hands and strategies to get their music heard. The way that Penner lead this seminar was very motivational and was lead with a lot of passion towards the challenges and end goal rewards in the music industry.

There were many other seminars that took place throughout the day for mobile and corporate DJ’s and live performance DJ’s. Majority of these seminars were held by sponsors Pioneer, CDJ, and DMC Canada.

The ending of Day One (Friday) was done with networking at the Tundra Lobby Bar inside the Hilton Toronto where guests and label representatives were able to grab a drink and connect with guests in a relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday, March 12 – Day Two of the CDJ Show & Conference was when the entertainment really started. Several booths were lined up against the hallways with brand new industry standard DJ-ing equipment and sound decks. Many guests were able to try out the sound systems and create beats right on the spot. The most anticipated event of the weekend happened on day two, the Get Signed interviews where record label representatives sat down with the guests and aspiring artists/DJ’s of the conference where they were given a once in a life time opportunity to showcase their music face-to-face with the label reps.

A few of the artists left the event getting their tracks signed by the attending record labels and had the chance to create new networking and business relationships with industry professionals in the music industry. The next event that conference goers were looking forward to was the exhibit, where many vendors showcased their sound systems and music equipment that guests were able to try, up close and personal.

Pioneer DJ had the largest booth where they had over five sound systems and sound decks ready to be tested by guests and fellow artists. We had the chance to play around with the Pioneer DDJ-SR Serato DJ Controller and was taught by one of the Pioneer representatives on how to mix our first beat! (It was pretty embarrassing. We’ll be sticking to our day jobs).

After the exhibit was over, the next event on the to-do list was the official afterparty with DJ Funkagenda at Maison Mercer. This was a VIP event that full pass and guest pass holders were able to get into for free with their conference ticket.

Overall, the 2017 CDJ Show & Conference was a complete success. The conference was quite organized, very educational, and left guests from all over Canada and the States inspired and motivated to keep pursuing their dream of becoming an established artist and producer within the Electronic Dance Music industry.

Harnessing energy from bubbling trap lines, anthemic big room beats and an iconic quote from Jerry Macguire, WALKR today releases brand new single ‘I Hate You’ on Scorpio Music.

The identity of the artist behind the cut is as yet a mystery, being kept a closely guarded secret by label personnel aside from the fact that he – or she – is a French national. Needless to say, the slick production and masterful ease with which the track progresses hint at an incredibly experienced hand.

Over the past four decades, seminal French label Scorpio Music has been responsible for bringing some of the most iconic names in music into the Continent. From disco and pop legends the Village People, the Ritchie Family, Break Machine and Prince, to more recent acts like Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren, Hardwell, Steve Aoki and Hardwell, the label has been a driving force behind France’s explosive music scene.

Now, with WALKR’s ‘I Hate You’, the label starts a new period of international releases, once more flexing its impressive A&R muscles and thrusting the Scorpio Music name back into the very heart of global dance music.

Harrison Shares New Video For Right Hook via The Fader

Praise for Harrison:

“Harrison’s song “Right Hook” is a glamorous future-funk jam.” The FADER

“Super smooth” – i-D Magazine

“Known for his warbly synth and upbeat funk driven aesthetics” – Noisey

“‘Vanilla’ goes a long way toward establishing Harrison’s
versatility without compromising his carefully honed aesthetic” Stereogum

“Harrison boxes his happiness in sugary instrumentals and wraps it with a cartoon bow”THUMP

Toronto, ON – March 9th, 2017 – Following the release of his debut album, Checkpoint Titanium, in September, Toronto producer, Harrison, is back to share a new video for the album’s fourth song, Right Hook. Premiering via The Fader today, the video was directed by Eva Michon, and produced with the assistance of MuchFACT. The video takes us through a day in the life of a female protagonist, from a morning jog, to teaching a piano lesson, and ultimately to the club. Watch the video here.

The video for Right Hook is an exploration of visual time-keeping,” Eva explains. “I am always mesmerized when the beat of a song I’m listening to on headphones synchronizes with movement in the real world. The ponytail of a jogger or a dancer is one of the greatest things to watch, and was the initial inspiration and jumping-off point for the video concept.”

On the inspiration behind the track itself, Harrison says, “When I was making Right Hook, I couldn’t fight the feeling that the bass made me want to bounce a bit. That feeling was also met with the thought of wanting to sock someone in the face, hence the name.”

In addition to the new video, Harrison’s Checkpoint Titanium was recently nominated for Electronic Album Of The Year at the 2017 JUNO Awards, which will take place on April 2nd in Ottawa. Harrison will be performing at JUNO Fest, held the day before the awards ceremony. This summer, he will be playing at two major festivals, including Osheaga in Montreal, and Field Trip in Toronto.

Watch the new video for Right Hook, see below for performance dates, and stay tuned for updates from Harrison.

Upcoming Performances:

Apr 1 Ottawa, ON @ Zaphod Beeblebrox (JUNO Fest)

SXM Festival, a clandestine Caribbean electronic music getaway, has announced the Phase 2 line-up for its March 15 -19 event, on the idyllic shores of Saint Martin. Joining an already world-class bill – including Ricardo Villalobos, Black Coffee, Âme, Bob Moses and Nina Kraviz – these newest additions show SXM Festival diving even deeper into the underground curation upon which it has earned its industry-leading reputation.
Poised to build upon the momentum of its much talked about inaugural 2016 event, SXM Festival’s fusion of tightly curated programming and the unique Island atmosphere of Saint Martin, has earned the enthusiastic praise of fans, artists, and critics alike.
SXM Festival Founder Julian Prince says:
“At SXM Festival we value quality and intimacy. Quality of music and experience. Intimacy with some of the most wonderful, enlightened, party people on the planet. Add to that the breathtaking beauty of Saint Martin and it’s a powerful mix. We have already sold tickets in North and South America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. And we can’t wait to welcome our global family to this magical island. In year two we have also redoubled our efforts to bring the very best talent in underground electronic music to SXM, with every carefully curated artist having their own sonic identity. Improving on last year’s line-up has been a challenge because we respect the musical story so much. But as we announce Phase 2, we feel like we’ve done it for 2017 – and this story should win a Pulitzer prize.”
Since its inception, SXM Festival has had its sights set on crafting an utterly unique destination experience, creating a new home for the nomadic dance music cognoscenti. For five sunrises and five sunsets, attendees will find themselves barefoot at the secluded white-sand beach main stage, adrift on an iconic Caribbean Boat Party, shining at exclusive VIP Villa Parties, lost in a techno tailspin in a natural jungle venue, or swept up in the local cuisine and rich culture of St Martin / Sint Maarten (one side of the island is French, one Dutch).
It is this mix of fine-tuned musical curation, an astonishing natural setting and a quality-over-quantity model that has come to define the SXM Festival experience. With an already budding community of dancefloor devoteés and the attention of the globetrotting party elite, 2017 will see the festival rise even closer to its fated ranking amongst the world’s best music events.
