A fresh month signalling a new year brings with it January, the debut release from one of Canada’s most promising, engaging and charismatic artists to enter the scene.
Unlike its namesake, Canadian singer/songwriter Avery Florence’s EP will warm your soul on first listen.
“Much like the month itself,” shares Avery Florence, “January represents both a beginning and an end, facing forward and leaving what was behind.”
The album is Toronto- and Montreal-based artist’s first complete body of work, a delivers a passionate look at life’s central but ever-complicated themes. In just six tracks, Avery’s highly skilled songwriting leads the listener on a complete journey. Digging deeper into the ethos of Avery reveals a path to cynicism from innocence, distress and defeat, triumph and perseverance.
The lead single “Heavenly” has attracted the ears from campus stations as well as Global, CTV, SiriusXM, the Region FM, Apt613, Ride The Tempo, and more. The song couldn’t be a more fitting representation of all that Avery Florence is: angelic vocals, raw talent, Bohemian ease, and a beaming, “welcome mat” of a personality.
Recorded live-off-the-floor, the power of musicians connecting and creating such a palpable embodiment of music lends additional reason to why Avery’s recent album release parties have been packed door to stage. The natural intimacy of her voice paired with the tangible energy contributed by her band make for a meaningful listener experience.
Avery Florence’s offerings to the world extend beyond the quintessential coffee-house pop “must-play” found in January. In 2017, she co-wrote and sang “Woke Up This Morning” with Halifax electronic duo Pineo & Loeb. The track and resulting video hypnotized critics, and saw the release featured on 100FM, Elite Muzik, Found, Ride the Tempo, SSG Music, The Beat Matters, Wolf in a Suit, and more.
January is available January 12, 2018.
