ETNO Wins ‘Best Of The Fest’ At Toronto’s Indie Week

Following six nights of more than 250 amazing performances and independent music, ETNO has been named winner of Indie Week 2017!

Presented by Jack Daniel’s and hosted by 94.9 The Rock,  the Indie Week 2017 Awards were held at The Mod Club Sunday, November 12th. Festival-goers were treated to cream of the crop performances by the week’s semi-finalists — the best acts from across Indie Week Canada 2017 — as well as last year’s winner, Moon Tan.

Chosen by industry judges as the “Best of the Fest,” Brazil’s grunge rock/new metal outfit ETNO ultimately rose to the top over eight other semi-finalists narrowed throughout the week’s events. As part of their win, they will travel to Manchester, England next year to headline Indie Week UK 2018.

Second place honours went to Canadian country artist Danielle Bourjeaurd, while another Brazilian rock band, Trampa, came in third.

A four piece rock band based in Brasília, ETNO cites influences ranging from grunge to new metal with a contemporary touches woven through their sound and performance.

The band has been on the road gaining speed for the last 15 years, building a solid career and a big influence in their hometown as well as other cities and states of Brazil. Their uniquely positioned three-part album release for As 7 Fronteiras — out over the course of 2016 – 2017 — included a tattoo giveaway turned music video with live performances for “Sétima Fronteira.”



Sponsored by Jack Daniel’s, Hopcity Brewing Co., and Slaight Music, the six-day tastemaker event showcased more than 250 emerging musicians and leading industry speakers across 25 venues from November 7th to 12th.

Indie Week and Indie101 successfully continued its mission to dynamically reimagine the conference and festival experience by bringing the community together for inspiration, education, and live music from bands and artists not currently signed to a major label.

This year featured a very special DJ set from Martin Atkins (P.I.L./Nine Inch Nails), plus Juno-nominated Rusty, Dearly Beloved (Aporia Records), Chixdiggit’s frontman KJ Jansen, CMAO nominee Dani Strong, Moon Tan, Wolf Saga, Indie Week UK winners The Empty Page, Conversation, Spells of Vertigo, The Mohrs, Jerry Leger & The Situation, Amos The Transparent, Goodnight, Sunrise, The Anti-Queens, Andrea Ramolo, The Commoners, The Honeyrunners, Rochester, Kingdom of Birds, Honey Beard, and many many more. Spanning more than 25 venues across the city, showcases included an Irish, Iceland, UK and Brazil showcases as well as special presentations curated by Pop Montreal, Exclaim!, Mississauga Music, ATX6, Music Nova Scotia, Seneca, Mobius Artist Management, M88 Entertainment Group, Pushcart, Buzz Magazine and Proud-FM,  The Library Collaborative, Music Ontario, and more.

A uniquely new addition to Indie Week and Indie101 came in the form of its first ever full Health & Wellness Day — an entire lineup advocating, educating, inspiring, and supporting optimal health, mental health, and overall well-being for everyone working in the industry. It featured a keynote address from Chuck Randall (Alice in Chains’ and The Cult’s tour manager), as well as guest speakers Martin Atkins (Nine Inch Nails, Public Image Ltd.) and Marky Ray (former tour manager for Nine Inch Nails).



Indie Week has previously hosted Finger Eleven, Philip Sayce, Mike Joyce (Drummer of The Smiths / DJ Set), Glen Matlock (The Sex Pistols), Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden), DJ LDontheCut (SUBLIME with Rome), Darenots, Walk Off The Earth, The Mahones, Diana, The OBGMs, Sumo Cyco, Parallels, Cousins, KO, The Rebel Emergency, Ill Scarlett, Peter Katz, Roz Bell, The Birthday Massacre, Romes (Nightbox), Tim Chaisson & Morning Fold on its stages.
